Earth Day Initiative
for your Business

Earth Day is right around the corner, and it’s time to start planning how you can help keep our planet safe and clean. What better way to start than by celebrating Earth Day every day?

Businesses can do their part to support the environment on Earth Day, as well as throughout the year.

On Earth Day, and throughout the year, businesses can do their part to support the environment by encouraging employees to walk or bike to work. You can also help reduce paper use by printing on both sides of the page (or even just one side). And if you’re going to print something anyway? Use recycled paper!

  • Recycle cardboard, plastic and glass: There are typically recycling bins at most businesses where you can put these materials instead of throwing them away in the trashcan.
  • Donate old computers: If your company has old computers laying around that aren’t being used anymore, consider donating them so they can be reused by someone else in need of a computer upgrade–and keep those valuable metals out of landfills!
  • Donate old clothes: Many charities accept clothing donations from individuals who have too much clothing but not enough time for laundering; some will even pick up your donation if you’re unable or unwilling to drop it off yourself!

Take advantage of Earth Day as an opportunity to educate yourself on environmental sustainability. You might not think that your business can learn about the environment, but it can actually be an advocates. This could include having fileted water pitchers instead of bottles. Energy conservation measures like turning off lights when leaving a room or powering down computers overnight instead of leaving them on standby mode all night long — these small changes add up quickly!

Consider these ideas for ways to celebrate Earth Day every day.

Consider these ideas for ways to celebrate Earth Day every day:

  • Recycle
  • Reduce, reuse and recycle
  • Donate to a local charity
  • Plant a tree in honor of Earth Day or for the benefit of your community (and reap the benefits of having trees around!)

If you’re looking for more ways to make an impact on our planet, consider these ideas:

Starting with a plan for sustainability will make your business stronger.

Businesses that have planned for sustainability are able to weather the storm of economic downturns, preparing them for the future and making them stronger than ever. Here are some of the ways a plan for sustainability can help your business:

  • It gives you an edge over competitors who don’t have one.
  • It helps you save money on energy costs by reducing waste and using renewable energy sources.
  • It improves employee morale and productivity by giving them a sense of purpose in their work, which makes them feel like they’re contributing something valuable to society as well as helping their employer succeed financially

Earth Day is a great opportunity for businesses to show their commitment to sustainability and environmentalism. You don’t have to go overboard with Earth Day initiatives–in fact, doing so may be counterproductive if it distracts from your core business goals. But there are simple things you can do every day that will make a difference in both your community and on a global scale.
